Birmingham church bombing
16th Street Baptist Church's Damge
At 10:22 AM, the 16th Street Baptist Church was bombed. At the time Carole Robertson, Denise McNair, Addie Mae Collins, and Cynthia Wesley were in the basement lounge preparing for their church's youth day. That day, their bible lesson was "A love that forgives.". Eighty other people were in the basement with the girls. Little did the people know that ten sticks of dynamite were put in the church steps by members of the KKK. When the bomb went off, all four girls in the lounge were killed. Twenty three other people were injured. Several cars parked outside of the church were wrecked. Damage spread so far that it busted the windows of an apartment building across the street. The 16th Street Baptist Church was in ruins.
