The 16th Street Baptist Church was a widely known church in Birmingham, Alabama in the 1960's. The 16th Street Baptist Church was the first colored baptist church in Birmingham. It was also a meeting spot of the NAACP. In the church, the NAACP would plan protests and sing spirituals. One of their protest plans was the children's crusade. The children's crusade took place at the 16th Street Baptist Church. The church held many marches and events that helped the Civil Rights movement's success progress. Because the church had much to do with the Civil Rights Movement, the church became a target of the KKK.
